On the 2nd of October, we brought together researchers, professionals, and students within nutrition for our annual meeting with the theme “Food with Meaning – the Role of Nutrition in the Crossroads of Health, Sustainability, and Political Initiatives.” The day was insightful and engaging, marked by great discussions and active participation from speakers and participants.
We spent the day exploring nutrition from multiple perspectives. You can find the key highlights below:
Session 1: The role of fish in the diet
The nutritional content and climate impact vary significantly between fish species and are influenced by production methods – this has implications for both dietary recommendations and sustainability strategies. Our presenters highlighted key aspects to consider when balancing health and sustainability.
Session 2: Dietary patterns – from research to practice
We gained insight into the many dietary patterns that exist, and how research in dietary patterns can make us more aware of the interaction between foods in the diet. Moreover, we learned how researchers and chefs collaborated in the development and implementation of the New Nordic Diet – now recognized by WHO as a world cultural heritage.
Session 3: From nutrition research to political action
Here, a representative from the Diet and Nutrition Association, shared how they are driving national attention to school meals through policy advocacy in Denmark. As a result of this work, 191 schools have now been selected to pilot test school meal programs.
We also gained insight into how the Danish Cancer Society works to document and address the marketing of unhealthy foods targeted at children and young people. Their research plays an important role in shaping the political agenda and informing evidence-based regulation.
In addition, the Danish Heart Association shared their work on ultra-processed foods — highlighting the journey from research to public awareness campaigns.
A common thread across all three initiatives presented in this session is the emphasis on cross-sector collaboration. Each project is grounded in partnerships between multiple organizations and stakeholders working toward shared public health goals.
Keynote lecture
Finally, our keynote speaker gave a thought-provoking presentation on nutrition and exercise strategies in the era of weight loss medicine.
Young researcher award 2025
We also had our annual young researcher award competition with three excellent contributions.
